Awards and recognitions can be seen as an indicator of the stakeholders’ perception of a company based on its activities or the quality of its communications. Such accolades contribute to shaping the company's reputation in the public domain and among key opinion-formers and stakeholders.
Performance 2008
Once again in 2008 Novo Nordisk received a number of honours and awards relating to its performance and its Triple Bottom Line approach to doing business. In total, Novo Nordisk received 25 awards and recognitions around the world. The following is examples of a few of the corporate awards and awards won by affiliates.
Corporate awards
Danish Society for Financial Analysts – Information Award
In January 2008, Novo Nordisk was presented with the ‘Information Award’ by the Danish Society for Financial Analysts (DSFA). In his speech presenting the award, DSFA’s representative, Jens Houe, explained why Novo Nordisk had won. ”Novo Nordisk has a pro-active Investor Relations department which together with the company’s management willingly takes part in meetings with investors and analysts. Novo Nordisk’s IR efforts are comprehensive and among the best – also seen in an international perspective,” Jens Houe said.
Danish Association for Energy and Environment – Energy and Environment Award 2008
On 28 February 2008, Novo Nordisk was awarded with FFE&M’s Energy and Environment Award 2008. “Novo Nordisk’s approach to energy and environmental policies is making the company an international role model. The company has proved that it is possible to save energy without losing its competitive edge, and is a worthy representative of the Danish environmental effort.” So said representatives of the Danish Association for Energy and Environment (FFE&M), when it presented Novo Nordisk with its Energy and Environment Award 2008. The partnership between Novo Nordisk and Danish DONG Energy is among the reasons why Novo Nordisk was recognised by FFE&M.
Corporate Register Reporting Award 2007
On 3 March 2008, Novo Nordisk received the Corporate Register Reporting Award 2007 (CRRA07) at a ceremony in Berlin, held in connection with the first Global CR (Corporate Responsibility) Reporting Summit. More than 120 leading corporate responsibility professionals attended the event. The Novo Nordisk Annual Report 2006 won the prize for Best Integrated Report. The award is given to the report that most successfully integrates financial and non-financial aspects. This voter’s comment captures the essence of readers’ motivation for their choice: "Novo Nordisk has reported to a very high standard for many years. This report shows companies can move to the next level, by adapting a quality stand-alone report into an integrated annual sustainability report, which must be the way to go".
IntraTeam – Denmark’s best internal web
Novo Nordisk internal website, Globeshare, was awarded with a prize for the best internal website in Denmark ahead of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Novo Nordisk was distinguishing itself within various categories such as news, integration, productivity, co-operation, and knowledge management.
2008 Medical Design Excellence Award
Novo Nordisk’s NovoFine® Autocover® automatic safety pen needle has won the 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award. NovoFine® Autocover® is a disposable safety needle for use with pen devices. It locks a shield automatically over the needle when it’s withdrawn from the skin, cutting the risk of accidental needle sticks on healthcare workers. “We’re getting recognition that NovoFine® Autocover® is a great piece of engineering in such a small device, and that there’s a need for it in the market,” says Søren Friis Østergaard, international product manager.

Novo Nordisk Norway
Great Place Work Institute Norge has named Novo Nordisk the fifth best workplace in Norway.
Novo Nordisk United Kingdom
The Great Place to Work© Institute has named Novo Nordisk the fifth best workplace in the UK. The institute also gave Novo Nordisk a second award in the highly regarded category ‘Corporate Responsibility’, and named Novo Nordisk runner-up for the ‘My work has a special meaning’ Special Award. The awards were presented at a ceremony on 27 May in London. An article about the special award, and why Novo Nordisk won, appeared in Wednesday’s Financial Times. “This Best Workplace award is great recognition and I am tremendously proud about the strong results in the UK, and for being recognised as one of the top socially responsible companies in the UK,” Viggo Birch, managing director of Novo Nordisk UK & Ireland, said last week. “It was a privilege to accept the award on behalf of Novo Nordisk and all my colleagues in the UK.” The Corporate Responsibility Award was the first award presented, and it was “fantastic” to hear what they said about Novo Nordisk, says Tracy Mellor, People & Organisation director UK.
Novo Nordisk Poland
The Polish business magazine publisher Grupa Media Partner has named Novo Nordisk Pharma Poland Best Employer of the Year 2007 in the pharma industry. For the Polish affiliate, this honour is even more important than the general award it received two years ago from Grupa Media Partner as the country’s best employer. Building a quality mindset was one of the major factors in determining the best employer. In this respect Novo Nordisk Poland feels particularly honoured by the responses from employees who were asked by Grupa Media Partner to explain what quality means to them. A reply from employee Piotr Grabowski was typical: ”Quality in Novo Nordisk is mainly the people employed by the company: professionals with a positive approach, thanks to whom every day you come to work with pleasure,” he said.
Novo Nordisk Argentina
In 2008, Novo Nordisk Argentina has been distinguished as the Best Company to Work For in Argentina, winning the first place in the ranking, in accordance with the methodology of the GPTW institute. Thanks to its excellent working climate, the Argentine affiliate been included in the listing for the sixth consecutive year. It had already gained the highest positions in the ranking, including first in 2003, sixth in 2004, third in 2005, fifth in 2006, second in 2007, and first in 2008. In addition to this recognition, the recent Facilitation report in Argentina showed very good results, thus validating the affiliate’s great working climate and focus on results. The conclusion of the Facilitation was that Novo Nordisk Argentina has a high level of compliance with the Novo Nordisk Way of Management, and that the management are seen as role models. There is a strong focus on improving the quality of work, and a high degree of focus on providing value to both internal and external customers.
Novo Nordisk Russia
Novo Nordisk Russia got an award “People Investor 2008” in the nomination Social reputation factor The Awarding ceremony in the sphere of business “People Investor 2008: companies investing in people” took place at the Expocentre on November, 17, Moscow. Novo Nordisk Russia was awarded in the nomination Social Reputation Factor for its unique project Mobile Diabetes Centre – also know as the bus. Novo Nordisk was one of the 6 companies awarded in special nominations. People investor is a comprehensive project estimating business investments in human and management potential in Russia. The project is led by the Russian Managers Association.
Novo Nordisk Australia
In December 2008, endocrinologists praised Novo Nordisk in Australia, by rating Novo Nordisk the number one company in the pharmaceutical industry. In an independent survey conducted by the company IMS, specialists in Australasia rated all pharmaceutical companies on customer service, the quality of their products, services to patients, educational programs and the quality of their representatives. Novo Nordisk Australasia was rated number one in every single category; well ahead of much larger companies such as Pfizer, GSK, Eli Lilly, Sanofi-Aventis and Merck.
